At the end of the world...

Had an absolutely amazing day today with Jess and Conor! We drove out to a penguin colony and got so close to them! They were literally at our feet. It was amazing. Sorry to all the folks at home who wanted penguins. Jess doesn't really think birds are clean enough to keep in the house, let alone the car. You'll have to be content with the pictures. We then drove to the Cape of Good Hope. Cape of Good Hope is inside a South African National Park. The park was amazing. Any day where you can see the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean in one fell swoop is a good day. We also saw ostriches wild in the park (did I mention that a bird pooped on me during our Robben Island Ferry ride? REALLY glad it wasn't an ostrich!).

The Cape itself is so breathtaking and majestic and we had EXCELLENT weather to see this beautiful site. We had lunch at Two Oceans Restaurant where the black birds sat on the rungs of our chairs and got swatted away like flies. We took the funicular (ascending train) up the side of the mountain to get to the top of Cape Point where there is a lighthouse that was built in 1857. After the Lusitania wrecked because the lighthouse was too high, they built another one lower on the side of the cliff.

Cape of Good Hope is the most south-western point of Africa and it was surely an amazing sight. On the way back to Jess's we stopped by the side of the road at a small "curio" market and someone at home got something special! At 10 Rand off! (FYI...that's less than $2.00 but I was happy.) And then we saw the baboons! They were right in the road and cars were stopped all over the place and we were on the side of the mountain and the baboons were chasing each other and fighting with each other and nursing their babies and just having a gay old time. It was really cool to see them until they started throwing rocks at cars. We hightailed it out of there then. How cool! I saw penguins, guinea fowl, baboons, and ostriches all in one day and my safari is not until tomorrow!

Jess and I are going to a wine tasting event tonight and then my safari starts early tomorrow morning. From 5-5 tomorrow, it's Safari Time!

You saw baboons??? Awesome... I think we have them here too. I keep hearing people say that "we've elected a bunch of baboons." But I doubt they throw rock at cars. That would make the ride to work exciting every morning!

Wow, how much fun for you! I wish you had taken a picture after you were pooped on.

Someone in South Africa needs to edit their history books. The RMS Lusitania was torpedoed off of the Ireland coast in 1915.
